King Joash was only seven years old when he became King of Judah. When he grew up, one of the best things he did was to repair the temple that his father and grandmother had let go to ruin. He led the people to give their offerings by placing a big chest with a hole in the top in the temple, so that the money could be used to pay all the workers with wood, stone, iron, and precious metals who were able to restore the temple.
Giving to God is an important part of worship. God has given us so much…the Bible says “every good and perfect gift” is from God. We should be very glad that we can give back some of what He has given us to help His church, His missionaries, and to share with others who need help. That’s what’s really happening during the offering time at church.
Think about all the things that the money you bring to church will be doing the next time you drop your offering into the plate (or wherever you place it). It starts out by blessing you when you give to God, because you have a very real part in what He is going in our world.
See you Sunday—and bring a friend along!
