Next Sunday is our last study about worship in church with other Christians. We will be learning about worship by singing, and we’ll do a lot of singing and listening to music. Please bring in your favorite Christian music CD, and we’ll try to listen to as many as we can.
Music is important throughout the Bible. In fact, the book of Psalms is really the Jewish song book! Many of the Psalms were used in worship in the temple.
The event in the Old Testament that we will study is the rebuilding of the temple by Zerubbabel, after its destruction by Nebuchadnezzar of Bablyon. The first thing the Jews did after they were released from captivity was to build the altar and start the daily sacrifices. After they had a chance to build their own homes for shelter, they started on the foundation of the temple, in the same place that Solomon’s temple had stood. When that foundation was finished, they took time to praise God and worship with song and music.
Don’t forget November 4 — it’s time change Sunday (so you get an extra hour of sleep!) but also Friend Day in Sunday School. Bring a friend and you both get to choose from the treasure chest. And everyone present will also get a gift. Our class is having a special party—bring a friend and dress alike (or wear the same color) and join us. You’ll get an invitation in the mail this week, with a card you may use to invite a friend.
Remember that worship is the most important thing that a person can do! Be sure to tell God that you love Him.

nanato4: I try to update on Monday, but sometimes later. Unfortunately, although I start on Sunday afternoon studying for the following Sunday's lesson, I don't have the learning activities selected until Thursday or Friday for the typical week. This year's group of kids loves games, so we will use those many times if one is in the leader's kit. Last week, for the prayer session, we made "I prayed for you" cards to send to various people in the church. Are you familiar with Extra! on the LifeWay site? It is often helpful for other ideas. I also pull other ideas from various internet searches on the topic, and frequently we work during that time slot on in-class missions or ministry projects. This week the kids will decorate grocery bags for Thanksgiving food collection. Perhaps we need another blog just for teachers. Tom Cook Comments are closed for this story. |
